I can imagine Lisa Wingate saying to the reader, “Come into my parlor” where, like the spider, she will spin you a web of tales which will keep you turning pages. When Mallory Hale meets the handsome man of her dreams, she hardly expects to find herself in a whirlwind romance followed by a move to a remote Texas town which harbors a secret. Waking up to a scorpion on the next pillow is about as far from the life she left working in the Capitol as she can imagine. Is it possible that God not only has a use for her in this seemingly God-forsaken place or has her life taken a colossal wrong turn? Are the mysteries that seem rooted in this place hers to solve or a warning to run?
Romantic, funny, touching and suspenseful, “Firefly Island” is a book that is hard to put down. Moses Lake, Texas, is peppered with a memorable cast of characters and creatures (not all of them harmless.) Wingate’s storytelling is impeccable and “Firefly Island” is a deeply satisfying read.
