“Broken Wings” Delivers Fast-Paced Angelic Fantasy

If you like fantasy and you like angels, then this mix of the two by Shannon Dittemore will be right up your alley.  Brielle and Jake, both humans blessed with unusual abilities are being targeted by the “Evil One” himself.  Unknown to them, they are pieces in a much larger battle, one taking place in the spiritual realm.  What they don’t know about themselves, and their pasts, might be the enemy’s best weapon against them.  Will they even have a future?

Now, it’s always hard for me to come into a series on book two but this one is beautifully done.  Back story is woven in so that the reader doesn’t feel like they’ve dropped into a half-finished conversation but the story is tantalizing enough to make you want to read book one.  This is one of those books in what I consider the “next wave” of Christian fiction.  It’s highly readable, entertaining and the characters are relatable.  This is the kind of book you pass on because it’s a really good read, not just because it’s a faith-based book.  (Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that it doesn’t have a strong faith theme running in it, either, it’s just not “preachy” with it.)  I would highly recommend this book for middle grades and up.  In my opinion, it might be a bit on the scary side for under middle school age.

This book was provided to me by Thomas Nelson as part of their BookSneeze program.  As always, the opinions are entirely my own!
